Overview: “Focused Library Outreach – Supporting Students”
This webinar will describe outreach to students (and non-academic areas) on the Lake Worth campus of Palm Beach State College. Alyse McKeal was hired as a dedicated Student Services Librarian to perform various levels of outreach. During the webinar Alyse will highlight outreach projects that addressed students’ needs including but not limited to the following: Embedded librarianship in Student Services; bringing a therapy dog into the library and to other areas on campus; creating a Libguide addressing homelessness and providing homelessness resources; and supporting students overall. Research has shown that the more engaged students are throughout various areas of college then the greater are retention and graduation rates.
Alyse McKeal is a Librarian/Professor 1 at Palm Beach State College, Lake Worth Campus. She recently acquired the responsibilities of the Electronic Resources Librarian and Serials Librarian. Alyse serves the library in various capacities in this role. In addition to doing Reference and Instruction librarianship, Alyse does both liaison and collection development work. She also continues to serve in her role outreaching to student services and student groups. Prior to working at Palm Beach State, Alyse was a Reference Librarian at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton. Alyse is active in the profession and continues to serve on various committees and in different leadership roles throughout college, regional, state and national associations.
