Description: This one hour webinar will introduce you to the new FEL resource available to you in Florida, Career Transitions. Career Transitions helps library patrons, find jobs, create resumes, and prepare for interviews. Attendance certificates can be provided.

Location: Web Based Training
Other Information:Julie Pepera, Customer Education Specialist, received her Bachelor in History from Albion College and her Masters in Information Science from the University of Michigan’s School of Information. She staffed the reference desks of several university libraries around the state of Michigan. Julie has also worked in the online community with organizations such as JSTOR and Google.

Julie has a passion for building the information literacy skills of patrons and students. In learning to use databases and eResources, people develop important skill sets that help them discern the value of information and make informed decisions. In a world where there is an overload of information, these skills are the key to being informed and judicious.

Julie hopes that all educators develop a proactive philosophy with their eResources rather than reacting to projects as they come and seeing the databases as a pile of information. Her lessons focuses on helping participants understand the parts of eResources so that librarians and teachers can direct people to the materials that are right for them. Below are just a few things that our customers are saying about Julie and her workshops:

•“Julie is a fantastic trainer, and her background in academic libraries helps her offer very practical suggestions on how and why to use the Gale databases.”
•“Julie was great! I am going to talk to my administration about what I learned and ways to implement it tomorrow.”
•“Julie was fabulous! She certainly has real-life examples of how to use this resource and why, since she was a librarian. I will definitely make sure that every teacher and the upper-grade students (elementary) in my building will know how to use this.”

A practical webinar looking at a variety of ways libraries can increase their impact and reach in their communities using mobile technology, social networking, and integration with the consumer services users already use.

Libraries play a critical role in their communities that goes beyond their collections, focusing on events, outreach and library as place. In an increasingly digital and mobile world, libraries need new ways to reach out and engage. Now with the new OCLC Library Spotlight program (www.worldcat.org/spotlight), you can set up a dynamic mobile view of your library and dramatically extend its visibility into many popular web services—in just 10 minutes. Learn about this free service, available to all, that will make it easier for your library to be found on the web and through highly trafficked services like Yelp. Hear how one library focused its messaging and engagement through coordinated efforts at a local level to maximize their web presence and reach.

Presented by: Jeff Penka, OCLC Director of Global Discovery and Syndication, and other special guests

Start time: 2:00 Eastern / 11:00 Pacific
