Understanding Basic Copyright for Librarians (Session One of Two)

If you can’t answer all of the above with a specific answer you should take this workshop. We will cover the basic copyright law needed to keep you and your library from any infringement. When you complete this workshop you will have a working knowledge of all copyright law as it refers to libraries.

Janet A. Williams is an independent technology consultant with 40 years of experience in K-12 public education.

She has had a successful career in teaching, administration and training at all levels. Her profession has included teaching science at elementary, middle school and high school and teaching American History. In addition to teaching K-12 students, she taught post graduate students as an adjunct professor for University of South Florida.

She graduated from Florida Southern College with a BA in Social Studies and minor in Science education. She continued her education receiving a degree in Information Science and Library Media. Her ALA approved Master degree from the University of South Florida gave her the opportunity to work with K-12 students and teachers as well as public librarians. Twenty of these education years were served as administrator for Charlotte County Public Schools Library Program and chief operating officer for Special Projects Center, a four county consortium serving Glades, DeSoto, Charlotte and Hendry counties She was responsible for the coordination of the planning, development and implementation of a comprehensive Pre-K through twelve instructional library, media and technology plan.

Presently, Janet is retired and is a co-owner of a consulting business, TIPS, Training in Presentation Skills. As an independent consultant, TIPS provides professional development opportunities on library information skills, interactive white boards, and integration of technology using Microsoft Office applications. Janet is a presenter at local, state and national conferences involving library, information and communication technologies.
Janet currently works with leading technology and media companies to integrate 21st century hardware and software systems into the curriculum. Grant writing, technology long range planning and training for presentations, computer business applications and interactive white boards helps Janet to generate solutions to technology challenges in the classroom as well open access to all libraries.
