This webinar will introduce the topic of emergent and early literacy, its core definition, what is being done around the state and the future of statewide led emergent literacy activities.
Children who have been read to at an early age have a larger vocabulary, better language skills, and a greater interest in books. In addition, research has shown that children need to develop certain skills in order to fully benefit from the reading instruction they receive when they arrive at school. As librarians, we play a key role not only in helping to develop those skills but also in educating parents and other caregivers about their critical role as their children’s first teacher.
Special guest: Laura Clark, Florida State University doctoral candidate and Bureau of Library Development volunteer. For additional information, contact Jana Fine, Youth Services Consultant, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 850.245.6629.
