Makers All Around You – Being Creative in Your Library and Beyond

February 24, 2016 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Makers All Around You – Being Creative in Your Library and Beyond
Overview: Makers all around you is an interactive session to talk about the many possibilities of bringing the maker community into the library. We will start off by talking about what makers actually are rather than just using buzz words. The perils and pitfalls that staff will encounter both with customers and with institutional concerns will be discussed as well as the positive publicity the library will achieve. Ideas for getting outside of your four walls will be offered and a look at what other libraries are already doing. This is a chance to come hear what is happening around maker spaces and bring your ideas and successes to share.
Learning Outcomes: Participants will come away from this webinar with an increased understanding of where to find connections and how to work with them so that everyone benefits. Attendees will be energized about the possibilities for their library.
Virtual Trainer: Bob Anstett

Robert “BOB” Anstett is the Coordinator for Digital Initiatives for Broward County Libraries. Bob is in charge of the Creation Station at Main library in Fort Lauderdale as well as Creation Station Business and other creative spaces around the County. Bob likes to say that he “lives in the future” where he gets to work with 3D printing, creative design, hands on maker projects and robotics. He is currently organizing and running a robotics track for the public to learn coding and building robots as well as a virtual reality track with an Oculus Rift available for the public to try out and develop on. Bob works at building connections with the local community and the library, along with cooperation between libraries around the State of Florida.
