This live online class (four hours over two days) will teach you the basics in securing your institution’s collections and safeguarding its people. We will start with how to conduct a security survey and an internal security audit. We will discuss ways to handle threats, violence, and the destruction of property. Other topics covered include special collections materials, building layout, security during disasters, electronic and data security, security during construction and renovation, protecting materials when they leave the building, opening and closing procedures, and issues specific to working with students and the public. We will end with practical ways that you can staff a security program and developing security policies that will reduce risk of theft, damage and harm to your institution’s property and people.
Staff from Florida libraries may register for this workshop at no charge. Priority will be given to SEFLIN members. Non-members will be placed on a waiting list and added as space permits after the registration deadline.
